Alexander Ahamer
Alexander is a Shiatsu and Chinese Medicine practitioner based in Cascais, with over 10 years of experience in manual therapy, rehabilitation, and integrative healthcare.
His work combines Shiatsu, structural and fascial bodywork, Traditional Thai Massage, and Chinese medicine to address chronic pain, mobility restrictions, postural issues, stress, tension, and nervous-system overload.
His clinical background includes private practice, emergency care, and neurological, orthopaedic, and psychiatric rehabilitation. Every treatment is individually adapted to the person, combining therapeutic depth with a calm and deeply relaxing experience.
Alexander is available for collaborations with clinics, hotels, spas, wellness centres, retreats, and corporate wellbeing programmes.
The Body as One System
Bones, joints, muscles, fascia and the energetic pathways of Chinese medicine continuously influence one another. Pain in one place is rarely made in that place.
Rather than working only where the symptom appears, I look for what is holding the pattern in position — and treat that.
Each session draws on several traditions rather than applying them separately. Shiatsu and its meridian work, Traditional Thai bodywork and assisted stretching, fascial release, structural work on the pelvis and spine, and the diagnostic framework of Chinese medicine. Which combination a session uses is decided by what the body presents on the day, not by a fixed protocol.
The result is a treatment that goes deeper than a massage while still leaving people profoundly relaxed. Most describe the two as inseparable: the release is what makes the rest possible.
A Life Devoted to Healing
Alexander was born and raised in Austria, where he became fascinated early on with physics, meditation, and the mind-body conncetion.
At 18, he began working as a paramedic before travelling to Asia, where he spent several years in Buddhist monasteries studying meditation and East Asian medicine. From age 19, he trained in Traditional Thai Massage with renowned masters Ajahn Sinchai and Ajahn Pichet, and treated patients at a monastery hospital in Myanmar.
Back in Austria, Alexander completed a four-year training in Shiatsu and manual therapy, before working for several years in psychiatric, neurological, and orthopedic rehabilitation hospitals. These experiences shaped his understanding of the close relationship between the body, the nervous system, pain, and the mind.
He later continued his studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine as an indoor disciple in the lineage of Dr. Zhang, in China, and specialised further with Dr. Florian Ploberger.
Today, Alexander lives in Portugal, where he is co-founder of Metta Medicine. His work combines manual therapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu, Traditional Thai Massage and a deep understanding of the mind-body connection, to help people move with less pain and more ease
