Manual Therapy
The Body as One System
The body functions as an interconnected system. Bones, joints, muscles, fascia, internal organs, and the energetic pathways of Chinese medicine continuously influence one another. Rather than treating only the area where symptoms appear, we look for the underlying cause of imbalance and help restore harmony and connection throughout the whole body.
The practiceOne Treatment. Many Traditions
Alexander works with an integrated, hands-on approach that sees the body as an interconnected system. Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms, he looks at how structure, movement, tension patterns, and internal function influence one another.
Drawing on osteopathy, Shiatsu, Thai massage, fascial work, and the principles of Chinese medicine, he combines several bodywork traditions into a single, coherent treatment. Rather than applying techniques separately, each session is guided by what the body presents in the moment.
Treatment begins with a careful assessment of posture, movement, and chinese abdominal and pulse diagnosis. Restrictions may be found in the joints, muscles, fascia, spine, pelvis, or internal organs, and are understood as part of a broader functional system rather than treated in isolation.
Depending on what's needed, treatment may combine structural joint techniques, soft-tissue and fascial release, visceral manipulation, and meridian treatment, to restore mobility, reduce tension, improve organ mobility, and support the body's natural balance.
Rather than following a fixed protocol, Alexander selects the combination of techniques best suited to each person. The goal is to restore harmony throughout the whole body, improving movement, relieving long-standing restrictions, and helping the body function with more ease and efficiency.
The lineageA Life Devoted to Healing
Alexander was born and raised in Austria, where he became fascinated early on with physics, meditation, and the mind-body conncetion.
At 18, he began working as a paramedic before travelling to Asia, where he spent several years in Buddhist monasteries studying meditation and East Asian medicine. From age 19, he trained in Traditional Thai Massage with renowned masters Ajarn Sinchai and Ajarn Pichet, and treated patients at a monastery hospital in Myanmar.
Back in Austria, Alexander completed a four-year training in Shiatsu and manual therapy, before working for several years in psychiatric, neurological, and orthopedic rehabilitation hospitals. These experiences shaped his understanding of the close relationship between the body, the nervous system, pain, and the mind.
He later continued his studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine as an indoor disciple in the lineage of Dr. Zhang, in China, and specialised further with Dr. Florian Ploberger.
Today, Alexander lives in Portugal, where he is co-founder of Metta Medicine. His work combines manual therapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu, Traditional Thai Massage and a deep understanding of the mind-body connection, to help people move with less pain and more ease

Clinical effectHealing happens when you’re ready for it
Every person arrives with a different story, and every body heals differently. Some changes happen quickly, while others take more time. Rather than simply treating symptoms, Alexander aims to understand what your body needs in order to recover healthy movement and function.
The pace of healing depends less on how long you've had a problem than on the kind of change your body needs.
Structural conditionsRelief often comes quickly.
Neck, back, shoulder and hip pain, restricted movement, joint dysfunction, muscle tension, and many sports or overuse injuries often respond surprisingly fast. Once the body regains healthy alignment and movement, meaningful relief can sometimes occur within the first session, even when the pain has been present for years.
Functional & constitutional patternsThe body relearns step by step.
Some conditions involve more than the joints and muscles. Long-standing protective tension, psychosomatic patterns, pain the body has "memorised," or imbalances involving the nervous system, organs, and meridians usually require a more gradual process. Rather than simply realigning the body, treatment supports it in establishing healthier patterns over a series of sessions.
